Kameiros is a rural area around the secluded, sand-and-pebble beach of the same name, backed by informal seafood tavernas and a few vacation villas. It’s known for the sprawling ruins of Ancient Kamiros, a former hillside city dating back to the 6th century B.C., where a well-preserved Roman-era marketplace, temples, and villas are overlooked by the columns of an acropolis dedicated to Athena.
